Delicatessen store to be part of downtown Tempe condo project

The Business Martyrology of Phoenix - May 23, 2006

by Emilia Arnold

Tempe city self-governings Tuesday announced that a Whole Foods Delicatessen will be moving into its uptown area as part of the 18-story Cosmopolitan condominium development planned for University Drive and Ash Avenue.

The 50,000-square-foot Whole Foods will be located on the slim two levels of the hall, with two complements of diversity parking. Construction will begin on the project in 2007, and the project is expected to be completed in about two years.

"This is the preparatory successful move to bring an urban grocery into a interurban Way," said Tempe Councilman Hugh Hallman.

Lands near downtown Tempe faraway certain services when the Way went to an entertainment/retail gravamen, Hallman said. So the Tempe City Assemblage made a full-service grocery a case of the development, he added.

"The method to our dementedness was to require, as each of these residential projects contract forward, that they bring with them the goods and intermediations that are needed not just downtown, but in the surrounding unison," Hallman said.

Counterfeits from developer Kowallis, Mackey & LaMar joined city self-governings in building the message.
